Born March 7, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa. Was raised and attended grammar and high school in Farley, Iowa. Attended and graduated from Seattle University in 1969 with a B.A. in Economics.

Legal Training

Graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington with a Juris Doctorate degree in May 1973. Became a member of the Illinois Bar in 1973 and of the Iowa Bar in 1977, and the Florida Bar in 2004. Also, in the summer of 1968 served an internship at Lloyd's of London with the insurance brokerage firm Stuart-Wrightson.

Experience

Following law school completed his ROTC military obligation by completing the Armor Officer Basic Course at Ft. Knox, KY and then with service in the Individual Ready Reserve being honorably discharged in 1981 with the rank of Captain.

Years 1974-1977, was employed by Patrick Mazza and Associates in Chicago, Illinois working on civil trial matters primarily involving real estate and construction actions.

Years 1977-2003, returned to hometown of Farley, Iowa and was engaged in general practice of law with emphases on real estate, taxation, estate planning and business transactions. From 1977 to 1985 also served as Secretary-Manager of Dubuque County Mutual Insurance Association and from 1985 to 2003 as Vice-President.
