Background
Jon was born on July 25, 1969 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Attended high school in Plantation, Florida and graduated in 1987. Thereafter, Jon attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989. Jon earned the rank of Specialist (E-4) and was stationed in the Republic of Korea and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in 1993. He returned to Gainesville, Florida, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1995 at Santa Fe Community College and a Bachelor’s of Science in journalism at the University of Florida in 1998.
Training
Graduated from Loyola University’s School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana with a Juris Doctor in May 2001 and became a member of the Florida Bar in 2002. In 2004, Jon earned a Master of Laws degree in taxation at the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
Experience
Jon concentrated in the fields of insurance defense, commercial litigation and automobile dealership defense at Stracher & Stevens, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
While a law student at Loyola University, was a student practitioner at Loyola’s Law Clinic, where he represented low income clients in domestic matters. After graduation from Loyola University, Jon was an extern with the Hon. Steven R. Plotkin of the State of Louisiana’s 4th Circuit Court of Appeal in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the University of Missouri – Kansas City, Jon was a tax fellow at Spencer, Fane, Britt & Browne, LLP and Rice & Fingersh, LC, where he researched tax issues. Also, he assisted University of Missouri – Kansas City faculty member Prof. Edwin Hood with research and editing the annual update of the loose-leaf text Closely Held Businesses in Estate Planning, (Hood, Edwin T., Mylan, John J. and O’Sullivan, Timothy P., Aspen Law & Business, 2004 ed.), and was a student practitioner at University of Missouri – Kansas City’s Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic, where he assisted low income clients with small business formation and the Tax Clinic, where he represented low income clients in matters involving the Internal Revenue Service.
Jon is presently employed in Spiegel & Utrera’s corporate department, where he drafts and reviews numerous agreements, including Shareholder’s Agreements, Operating Agreements, Commercial Leases, Buy-Sell Agreements, Stock Transfer Agreements, Asset Purchase Agreements and Business Sales Agreements.
